Celebrate with us in Woodstock! We’re thrilled to announce that employees of our local Woodstock Starbucks voted to award us a $1,000 Neighborhood Grant! We will be at Starbucks on Tuesday, July 9, from 4-7pm to receive the donation and chat with the community. Representatives from Lord Fairfax Soil and Water Conservation District and the Virginia Department of Forestry will also be there to share information about their programs. Stop by to say hi, learn about our latest work, and share your favorite conservation tips with us!

Complete a brief survey to help fight invasives

If you live or spend time in Virginia, Blue Ridge PRISM wants to know what invasive species you’re seeing in your area and are most concerned about. Please complete this brief survey by August 1 and share it with other Virginia residents, gardeners, farmers, educators, landscape workers, and property owners!

Thanks for joining us on the trail!

Thank you to everyone who joined us June 1st to celebrate National Trails Day and 50 years of the W&OD Trail in Northern Virginia! Our very own educator Taylor Bates and Arlington County's Jennifer Soles led a group of nature seekers along Mile 0 of the W&OD Trail to learn about invasive plants, like the misnamed Tree of Heaven and the once-popular English Ivy. We also discussed the critical importance of native plants in creating wildlife habitat.

WorldEnviroDay_2024_1.jpg

On June 12, we returned to the W&OD Trail for our rescheduled World Environment Day. We honored this year's theme of land restoration through a bike ride and trail walk, during which we learned why native plants are so important to native wildlife and our communities. In Herndon, plant experts Nick Newberry and Margaret Fisher volunteered their time to teach us about invasive species and how we can all be part of #GenerationRestoration. While kids explored the green space to complete their "plant bingo" cards, grown-ups discussed ways to incorporate native plants into our own home landscapes.

These two events marked the launch of our new partnership with NOVA Parks, supported by the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. Be on the lookout for our future events within this beautiful urban park!
