SoMD 2030 Workforce Development - Special Thanks to our TPP Members hosting professional development sessions! The summer 2023 inaugural college intern cohort is entering week 7 of their experience, more than halfway there. The interns have also participated in weekly professional development sessions focused on career readiness competencies as part of their internship. We appreciate the TPP members who have hosted the interns onsite for these sessions - AVIAN, KBR, Precise Systems and UMD/ USMSM - and to remaining programs at TechPort, Bell and the Pax River Naval Air Museum!

- Friday, August 4th -50th Annual Governor’s Cup Yacht Race sets sail from Annapolis, Potomac River, Solomons & Fishing Bay to St. Mary’s City. Hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland (SMCM), the race is the oldest and longest overnight competition on the Chesapeake Bay. There are race legs starting in Virginia, Solomons and the Potomac River. Close to 125 competitors are expected to sail into the SMCM on Saturday August 5th. There will be an all-day festival with free rock and steel drum bands. The public is invited to the festivities and award ceremony dubbed “one of sailing's 10 best parties” by Sailing World Magazine. Race registration and shoreside activity information at smcm.edu/govcup50. The new Maryland Dove, an 84 ft. replica of a 17th-century square-rigger from Historic St. Mary’s City, will be the finish boat at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

St. Mary’s County Library had a great year! Read our annual report to learn about all the amazing accomplishments and successes of the past year. A few highlights: 1,039,565 items checked out and 168,514 digital items were checked out in Fiscal Year 2023 - an 11% increase of digital checkouts over FY2022! St. Mary's County Library has 32,044 card users. 308,551 visitors came to one of our Libraries in FY2023. We provided over 1,400 free programs that nearly 30,000 people attended.
