Dear Pam:

We would like to extent a big welcome and thank you to the members of our Friends/Volunteerism Committee.

They are:

  • Terry Christopher, Friends of Pinchot
  • Amanda Galvan, Friends of Shawnee & Blue Knob
  • Ann Harting, Friends of Cook Forest
  • Mary Hirst, Friends of Ole Bull (and the PPFF Board)

They, along with Maria Montero of the PPFF Board, have agreed to serve as your liaison to the board and contribute their considerable brain power, interests, and perspective to deliberations on projects, processes, and possibilities for you, the Chapters.

Yours in the Outdoors,

TRAINING

Thank you for everyone who signed up for trainings. They are now on the Resources page with the exception of the most recent, where we are editing to add answers to questions you posed.

We had several requests for training on diffusing tense situations and/or working with difficult people. We have contracted with a content area expert to create this training—it will be three, 30-minute segments that you can complete at your own pace, on your own time. If you have a "real life" scenario you would like us to have included in the training, send them to me at mmowery-ppff@pa.net and I will be sure that we address the question specifically in the training.

The Friends Committee also requested a training on social media—stay tuned for the announcement of when this training will be available.

DO

Is a new playground among your success stories? Or is one on your radar for placement in the future? We are gathering information on accessibility in playgrounds and would be grateful if you might take a minute to complete a survey on inclusive playground elements. It will only take a minute and will be incredibly valuable. Check it out at https://ppff.online/accessible-playgrounds

KNOW

We introduced you last month to Pennsylvania's first Director of Outdoor Recreation, Nathan Reigner. You should have received an email inviting you to a chapter leaders' only get acquainted session with Nathan scheduled for March 16 at 6:30 PM. Register today!

KNOW TOO

The re-energized (and expanded) Friends of Shawnee & Blue Knob are about to launch a Bonfire tee shirt promotion; the Friends of Michaux have already done a successful campaign or two through the online retailer. Interested in giving it a try? A new fact sheet on the process is attached and is now available on the Friends Resources page under (at least for now) Fact Sheets & Other How-Tos accordion file.

KNOW SOME MORE!

National Public Lands Day will be the kick off for the first ever PA Healthy Lands Week! The week will be bookended by A Walk in Penn’s Woods, essentially going from September 24 until October 1. (Perhaps you recall completing a survey indicating your interest in this event.) The final touches are being put on a logo for the event and we will soon have a landing page on the PPFF website. While this is a partnership endeavor, friends groups will be able to register their events on the PPFF webpage. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

KNOW YET MORE!

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is again offering an opportunity to apply for a grant under their Healing the Planet Grants. If you believe that you are interested, please complete the PPFF grant pre-application (found on the Friends Resources page of the website under Fundraising) by March 25 so that we can see how many folks are interested. If we find a large number are interested, PPFF will seek guidance from KPB on the best way to proceed to ensure maximum success.

SHARE

Shout out to the Friends of White Clay Creek for the use of the volunteer hours tracker (found on the Volunteers dropdown of the Friends Resources page of the website) for their annual report. Nice job!

RESOURCE REMINDER:

The PPFF website is a great source of information and guidance with forms you can use and information you should know.
