March is Brain Injury Awareness Month!!
How are you planning to raise awareness about brain injury in your community and beyond? Last year, Montour High School's Future Business Leaders held a pickle ball tournament to raise awareness and support BIAPA. Other groups have promoted a Brain Injury Dress Down or Denim Day in their workplace. This year BIAPA is hosting a Brain Safety Fair at Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg. Do you have an idea that you'd like to share and that BIAPA can promote? Send your ideas and plans to admin@biapa.org. #NotAloneInBrainInjury.
Brain Injury Awareness Day on Capitol Hill
On Wednesday, March 6, advocates from across the United States will be going to Washington, DC to participate in Brain Injury Awareness Day on Capitol Hill. Our main goal is to educate our legislators about the needs of individuals with brain injury and their supporters. One area of focus will be the Traumatic Brain Injury Act, which will be due for reauthorization this year.
There will be some additional events in the late afternoon and early evening on Tuesday March 5, the day before Brain Injury Awareness Day, for those who are interested. Details are forthcoming.
If you're interested in learning more about the events or joining the group from BIAPA that will be attending, contact Monica Vaccaro vaccaro@biapa.org. You're welcome to come to one or both days. Monica will be working with the Brain Injury Association of America to facilitate the appointments with legislators and set the schedule for the day.
We haven't gone as a group since 2020, due to COVID related issues, and we're so looking forward to going back. It's always a great day!
