Feast of the Archangels

ARCHANGELS.jpg

The calendar rolls around again to one of our favorite feast days: the Feast of the Archangels.  St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael are specified. We know of the archangels through Tradition and Scriptural accounts of their actions.

St. Michael is head of all the Heavenly Host, both in time and in eternity. He led the loyal Angels in the angelic defeat of  Lucifer and those who rebelled against God.  St. Michael's famous battle cry is "Who is like God?". He is associated with courage, protection and divine intervention.

St. Gabriel serves as a Messenger from God to certain people in biblical accounts. Most notably, he appeared to Zachariah, announcing that his aged wife Elizabeth would give birth to a son, the Precursor,  John the Baptist. Months later  Gabriel appeared to a young virgin Mary, betrothed to the carpenter Joseph, announcing that she would give birth to the Messiah.

St. Raphael is known as the trustworthy traveling companion of Tobias and for healing the sight of Tobit.   St. Raphael is associated with healing, charity, deliverance and care of travelers.

They are just three of the myriads and myriads of angels that stand before the throne of God day and night.

But the actions of angels and archangels are not limited to biblical accounts. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, "...the whole life of the Church benefits from the mysterious and powerful help of the angels....From infancy to death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession." (334-336)

While we usually do not get to see them,  be assured that angels are always at your side.  They are not the wimpy, fairy-like beings of popular representations, but powerful spiritual creatures with intelligence and will.  God has given them the mission of helping, protecting, guiding, consoling and interceding for us. They have orders to fight off evil and protect God's children. What they did for our biblical ancestors, they will do for you.

They never forget you. And they are eager to help you.

DO NOT FORGET OR HESITATE TO CALL ON THEM!

A NETWORK OF TRUST

"This is what MDM is called to be: a growing communion of trust in His Mercy for our needy world." ~ Fr. John Mary

MDM started encouraging people to pray "Jesus, I trust in You"  ten times a day back in 2011. Recently we felt it was important to remind people to turn to Jesus with this simple, powerful prayer in a world that feels more and more out of control. We are suggesting 20 times, but some people find themselves repeating it hundreds of times. It reminds our troubled souls that GOD IS IN CONTROL.

Many of you have put your name on our growing list and have also left a prayer intention or testimony:

My husband Marcus and I went for the first time to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on August 20 at the Mission of Divine Mercy. We were speechless for a while after Mass. The reverence. The music. The communion rails. The veils. The Holy of Holies celebrated and worshiped as He should be. Thank you so very much for welcoming us so warmly. We just moved into the area and have found our spiritual home! ~Selma

Jesus I Trust In You, therefore I ask that you help Kristin Deleon on her journey to a bone marrow transplant soon. She is my niece and suffering with Leukemia. I pray for a miracle! Jesus, I pray that you help my son David. He is a new father and needs your guidance and wisdom. ~ Angie

Thank you for your loving tribute to Mike Norris who introduced me to 33 Days of Morning Glory!!~Cindy
