Securities Exchange Commission revisits pay-to-play
The SEC recently unveiled a proposal that would let investment advisers keep serving public pension clients even if they have recently given money to state or local officeholders. If adopted, it would unwind a 2010 safeguard that followed scandals where campaign contributions were linked to winning pension management work. Read more HERE.
Federal Tax Changes Expand Public School Donation Opportunities
While the “One Big Beautiful Bill” tax overhaul act created a national program similar to private school vouchers, the Washington Post reports it also allows specific nonprofits to collect donations for public schools given by people taken directly from their federal taxes. Taxpayers can give up to $1,700 to scholarship-granting organizations as dollar-for-dollar credits and public school advocates are noting ways to use that option amid general funding struggles. Ohio Governor candidate weighs in on crypto for pension systems
House Bill 18, known as the Ohio Strategic Cryptocurrency Reserve Act, would amend state law governing all five of Ohio’s public retirement systems to explicitly allow their boards to invest in qualifying exchange-traded products, including products providing exposure to cryptocurrency. Schools may soon add responsibility for foster care
House Bill 25 would create a building-level “foster family navigator” responsible for helping foster-care students connect with services and participate in school.
