The Nonprofit Montgomery team is very excited for the year ahead and thrilled to share that Nonprofit Montgomery is a recipient of two of Montgomery County’s FY26 Nonprofit Strategic Planning Grants! Administered by the Montgomery County Office of Grants Management, these grants support local organizations in building operational roadmaps, navigating organizational consolidations, and implementing long-term resilience initiatives. Receiving this support is both an honor and a vital opportunity to reenergize our mission to strengthen, connect, and advocate for the nonprofit sector across our region.
Building directly on our recent Systems Thinking, Systems Changing™ workshop, facilitated by Wendie Veloz Enterprises and Cairn Guidance and attended by over 70 nonprofit leaders, funders, and elected officials, this funding allows us to translate big-picture organizational concepts into everyday continuous improvement. Rather than relying on temporary fixes, we are using this opportunity to refine our operational strategy, streamline internal processes, and build sustainable frameworks that keep our organization agile, effective, and deeply responsive to changing community needs.
Strengthening our strategic roadmap enhances our capacity to deliver high-impact technical assistance, lead local advocacy efforts, and foster deep cross-sector collaboration across Montgomery County. I am deeply grateful to the County Executive, the County Council, and the Office of Grants Management for believing in our work, and I look forward to partnering with all of you as we build a more resilient future together.

As part of our commitment to serving our nonprofit community in the best way possible, we are refreshing our Financial Management Institute (FIRM) program to better meet the evolving needs of nonprofit leaders. Our new Strategic Nonprofit Finance Series led by Justin Pollock of OrgForward builds on the foundation of FIRM while offering a deeper focus on financial leadership, strategy, and long term sustainability.
The first installment in our refreshed series addresses a common challenge for nonprofits: aligning board members and staff around critical decisions and organizational strategy. Participants will be introduced to The Integrity Profile, a practical tool designed to help teams define shared criteria for decision-making and strategy. The National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) released a new report, Opportunity for Reform: Strengthening the Nonprofit Sector's Ability to Deliver Essential Services Through Grants and Contracts. The report outlines a comprehensive package of state policy reforms to modernize government grants and contracts.
Maryland Nonprofits Conference is coming up on October 22-23! Paid family and medical leave is coming to Maryland! Starting January 1, 2028, Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) will make it possible for eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of paid, job-protected leave. Employees will be able to welcome a new child, tend to a serious health condition, care for a loved one, or manage urgent family needs related to deployment—while still being paid up to $1,000 per week.
FAMLI is an insurance program. Starting January 1, 2027, employers are responsible for contributions that will be paid into a fund administered by the State. Up to half of the contributions can be withheld from employees via payroll deductions. Alternatively, employers may apply to use a private plan.
All employers with at least one employee localized in Maryland are required to register with FAMLI. There are no exceptions under state law.
This session will walk through what's changing, who's covered, and the state vs. private-plan decision employers need to make before the Declaration of Intent window closes on November 15, 2026 — including a real cost comparison showing potential savings from pursuing a private plan.

The Healthcare Initiative Foundation FY27 Fall Grant Cycle will open on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 8am EST. The application will remain open through Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 5pm EST.
The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and the Office of Grants Management (OGM) are soliciting applications from nonprofit organizations for FY28 CDBG Public Service Grant funding consideration.
Based on feedback from the nonprofit community, the RFA has been updated to reduce the application burden to match previous years and to be proportional to the likely final award amounts.
These grants support programs that primarily benefit low‑ and moderate‑income (LMI) residents of Montgomery County.
Submission Deadline to Montgomery County: September 18, 2026 at 11:59 PM
FY27 Healthy Communities Fund (HCF) Grants Program: The Asian American Health Initiative, part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Office of Grants Management (OGM) are soliciting grant applications for the County’s FY2027 Healthy Communities Fund Grants Program from qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. This grant program seeks qualified service providers to administer culturally and linguistically appropriate programs and services that improve the health and wellness of Montgomery County residents with a particular focus on Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. If submitting a funding request above $50,000, applicants are encouraged to collaborate with other community organizations to ensure a coordinated, community-driven approach that maximizes resources.
FY26 Fair Housing Testing Services Grant Program — CDBG-Funded:(Anticipated launch July 2026) The goal of this grant program is to solicit applications from eligible nonprofits or civil rights organizations with expertise in fair housing testing. $20,000 in total grant funding will be made available for awarded grantees to identify and analyze evidence of housing discrimination discovered through its fair housing testing in the County.
The Montgomery CountyGrant Opportunities Newsletter provides grant seeking stakeholders with a concrete schedule of new, currently open, and soon to be launched grant programs as well as status updates for closed grant programs. The newsletter also highlights the Office of Grants Management (OGM) events, non-County grant opportunities, and other events/news items of interest to grant seeking stakeholders.
