Welcome to the Massachusetts Public Banking (MAPB) newsletter! This February, MAPB has a few exciting updates.
New MAPB Co-Chair
MAPB has welcomed a new chair, Kate Royce, and set some new goals as 2026 gets underway.
Kate Royce will be joining Nancy Ryan and Ruth Caplan as a co-chair of MAPB. Kate is a staff attorney at South Coastal Counties Legal Services, bringing a background in consumer protection and public service to the campaign. Formerly an enforcement attorney at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and a math teacher before law school, she’s passionate about creating fair financial systems that protect and empower Massachusetts communities.
Join us in welcoming Kate to the MAPB leadership team!
Legislative Updates
Our bill (H.1114/S.736) has been pushed to a decision on March 3, 2026. We are hard at work meeting with legislators, banks, and community organizations to fight for a favorable report.
Out and About
MAPB attended the Tax Justice Convening hosted by the State Revenue Alliance at the Boston Teachers’ Union hall. We presented public banking at the Ending Wealth Inequality workshop, joining partners from Massachusetts, Oregon, and New York to brainstorm state-level policy solutions to wealth inequality, explore digital communications strategies, and build coalitions!
Farther Ahead
Keep an eye out for Public Banking 101 trainings over Zoom to introduce new coalition members and build public knowledge about public banking!
