Dear Dramatists,
We are thrilled to invite you to a special Saturday Series, June 14, 2pm, when two opera pieces, Locket Arias and A.L.I.C.E. will share the Russ Tutterow Theatre stage and feature lyric sopranos Sarah Thompson Johnson, Alexandra Martinez-Turano and more.
In Resident Playwright Ruth Magraff's Locket Arias, six, 1850s courtesans sing self-portraits to appraise early feminist desire. Drawn from history, they inspire world-class art, national wealth and social power. Are they destined to end up bodice-ripping, or fainting and dying in some operabox milk bath? Or is this the turning point where the revelers come in? The Locket Arias are composed by Phil Fried in Rossini buffa tableaux vivant style, scaled for Ruth Margraff's daydream muse, and directed by Chicago luminary Amy Hutchinson. |
