When the temps rise, so does the amount of trash in the park – and CNPC gets to work!
Summer means heavier trail use, more paddlers and tubers on the water, and unfortunately, a lot more litter. Behind the scenes, our staff and volunteers are out early packing boats, prepping gear, running shuttles, and hauling bags of trash out of the river and off the banks. It’s hot, sweaty, and unglamorous work, but it’s critical to keeping our park clean and safe for everyone!
Want to see the crew in action? Follow us on social media to check out recent cleanup photos, and stay tuned for upcoming volunteer opportunities if you’d like to grab a paddle (or just a trash grabber) and join us!
Join us Thursday, August 15th, for a special members-only paddle celebrating the anniversary of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area! We’ll explore an iconic stretch of the river – the very section that inspired President Jimmy Carter to preserve this place as a national park in 1978.
This is a unique opportunity to experience the river’s beauty the way it moved a president and to celebrate the impact members like you make possible. Stay tuned for registration details coming soon!
This spring, Crayfish Creek was bustling as over 100 students from White Oak Elementary joined Gwinnett Soil and Water Conservation District for a hands-on outdoor classroom experience. Students immersed themselves (literally and figuratively!) in STEM-based activities like data collection, scientific observation, seining, and planting native Black Willow live stakes along the stream.
One of the day's most exciting moments was spotting key indicator species like hogsucker fish and even a Chattahoochee Crayfish, a hopeful sign of improving creek health. In one afternoon, these young scientists helped move this little ecosystem one step closer to thriving!

During Pints for the Park, $1 from every drink sold will be donated to Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy, and this year, your drinks are doing even more good! All proceeds will go directly toward the Island Ford Trails Project, our effort to make our park’s trails safer, more sustainable, and even more fun to explore.
Bring your friends, sip on something local, and help us raise a glass (and some funds) for the park we all enjoy!
RSVP not required, but feel free to do so. We hope to see you there!
We put together a short video to highlight the signs of an unsustainable trail – like erosion, widening, and social trails – and explain why these issues matter for the health of the Chattahoochee River and the experience of every park visitor. Whether you’re a seasoned park visitor or brand new to the trails, this is a great way to learn what to look for and why it’s so important. It also shows why projects like the Island Ford Trail Project are so critical – we’re working to replace aging, damaged trails with ones built to last and designed to protect the landscape we all love!
In the News: Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy updates fed changes
We were grateful to see East Cobb News help amplify our message about the impacts of federal changes on the National Park Service. The article spotlights our new landing page, where we share how staffing shortages and proposed budget rollbacks could significantly affect CRNRA.
We’re raising awareness about what’s at risk not just for rangers and park staff, but for the long-term health and sustainability of our park. As we shared, “These obstacles are real, but so is the spirit of the community that loves and supports CRNRA. Together, we can overcome these challenges.”
It’s a #ChattahoocheeSummer – Send Us Your Photos!
If you're paddling past herons and turtles, hiking through wildflowers or in a cool shaded trail, or just catching golden hour in the park, we want to see how you're enjoying CRNRA this summer!
