The Future of NNOCCI

Important Announcement graphic

As we shared last week (and apologies to anyone who received an illegible email), we have recently been alerted that our federal funding, administered through the US Department of State, has been terminated effective immediately by the new administration.

NNOCCI is very much hurting, given this sudden news.  While it is still very early, there will be a significant impact on NNOCCI’s staffing and our ability to maintain our work in the near term.

However, given the urgency of our work and the dedication of the network, we are committed to moving forward. But we need your help.

Trainings already scheduled for the next few months will continue. Please help us promote them.

    1. TOMORROW: Changing the Conversation: An Introduction to Effective Climate Change Communication, 1pm ET/10 am PT

This free, one-hour training, led by the amazing Kayla McCurry, Conservation Outreach Manager for Polar Bears International and  Kiersten King, PhD Candidate at the University of Manitoba, is for anyone interested in, but new to, NNOCCI's work.

2. March 31-May 12, 2025: Framing the Conversation-A Crash Course in Effective Climate Change Communication

Once you complete this course you’re officially welcomed into our NNOCCI Community of Practice! Click the links below for additional details, or to register.

Cohort A: Wednesdays (2-3 PM ET / 11-12 PM PT)

Cohort B: Thursdays (3-4 PM ET / 12-1 PM PT)

Finally, please share any leads and information on possible funding opportunities for NNOCCI to pursue that would help us continue and expand our work. Feel free to contact Adam Ratner at RatnerA@tmmc.org.

Some Good News!

NNOCCI has been notified we are a semi-finalist for the prestigious American Climate Leadership Award. Finalists will be announced in April.

In the meantime, please share this new video we produced to highlights our work with anyone in your networks who may be interested in learning more about NNOCCI.

NNOCCI in the Wild!

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting its first class of California Climate Action Corps Fellows this year, with three pairs of Fellows stationed at Nimbus Hatchery, Elkhorn Slough, and Back Bay Science Center to conduct climate outreach and education projects. At Nimbus Hatchery in Rancho Cordova, CCAC Fellows Sara and Sam used NNOCCI framing techniques to develop some fun, hands-on activities for their outreach table to help visitors understand the effects of climate change on salmon. See them in action below.
