Stock Market Game registration open

Game runs October 5–December 11

Last year, 468 teachers across Maryland advised 6,051 teams playing The Stock Market Game™. That’s almost 20,000 players learning how to invest in the stock market! Student teams furiously researched stocks, calculated risk, made tough evidence-based decisions and became “invested” in current events. Most of all, the teachers and students had fun together. And, a student from Waverly Elementary in Howard County was selected for the second-place prize in the national Investwrite competition! 

Luckily, registration for the 2026–2027 season is officially open, and we’d love to have your students join the learning!

What’s The Stock Market Game™?

• An online simulation stock market investment game for Grades 4–12
• Students to work in teams to research and analyze investments and manage a portfolio.
• The team with the most profit at the end of the game wins.
• Because of generous sponsors, Maryland students can play for FREE.

For more than 70 years, MCEE has provided professional development opportunities to educators that connect classroom learning to the real-world issues students encounter every day. As we expand our offerings for teachers at all grade levels, we’re excited to introduce several new webinar programs for elementary, middle, and high school educators this fall, with more to come soon.

• September 8, September 23: Stock Market Game: Essentials for Educators
  Grade 4–12 teachers Learn how the game works and explore the Teacher Support Center's ready-to-use lesson plans, videos and classroom activities. One PD point.
• September 30, 7 p.m.: Personal Finance Challenge: Introduction
  High school social studies and business teachers  Info session on this team competition that tests savings, budgeting and financial decision-making skills.
• October 6, 7 p.m.: Beyond the Bell: Advanced Stock Market Game Webinar
  Interactive session on interpreting financial statistics and comparing companies for investment research, with a classroom-ready worksheet. One PD point.
• October 8, 7 p.m.: Teaching Supply, Demand & Markets in K–5 with Hands-On Activities 
  Elementary teachers  Webinar for hands-on strategies — simulations, mini classroom stores and picture books — for teaching market concepts. One PD point.
• October 14, 7 p.m.: ETFs, Index Funds & Passive Investing Explained for Teens
  Middle/high school economics, business and personal finance teachers  Introduce students to ETFs, index funds and passive investing, including diversification and long-term financial stability. One PD point.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT

2026 Financial Educators Summit draws educators from across Maryland

On June 29, MCEE welcomed educators from across the state to the Westin BWI Hotel in Linthicum Heights for our Annual Financial and Economic Educator Summit, powered by APGFCU and presented in partnership with the Maryland Council for Social Studies.

The day featured 20 sessions across elementary, secondary and cross-curricular tracks. A session on using AI to build classroom scenarios and case studies drew both economics and personal finance teachers. Other session highlights included:

• The Wealth Within Words: exploring how children’s literature brings economics and personal finance to life for elementary classrooms
• Ways to Pay: a hands-on look at modern payment methods from Venmo to crypto
• 250 Years of Working Women: tied to the nation’s semi-quincentennial
• The Safe-to-Fail Classroom: on helping students practice financial decision-making with confidence

Attendance grew to 158 educators, up from 148 the year before, with notable growth in participation from Baltimore City and private schools. Dorothy M. Nuckols, MPH, AFC®, called it “one of the best professional developments I’ve attended over my career.”
