PRC was busy in spring and even busier heading into summer – stewarding resources to reduce waste and conserve the environment. We “Zero Wasted” eight large-scale events (with two dozen more to come), dramatically reducing the amount of waste produced and diverting what is produced to compost, reuse, and recycling. We held dozens of household chemical, hard-to-recycle, and e-waste collections (with many more to come), recycling and safely managing hundreds of thousands of pounds of material. We have expanded our watershed protection work in the Darby Creek and Cobbs Creek watersheds, educated thousands of K12 students and adults to steward the environment, launched a campaign to prevent food waste, and provided technical assistance to help businesses, schools, and municipalities waste less. We are proud of our hard work as we strive with our partners to create a Pennsylvania where nothing is wasted.

Watershed Protection Expands Thanks to NFWF Grant
Thanks to support from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the PA Department of Environmental Protection, PRC has begun expansion of work in the Cobbs Creek and Darby Creek watersheds. Working with partner organizations, PRC is increasing the creation of property-by-property green stormwater infrastructure while building the tools and capacity of community collaboratives to grow and sustain the work.
Stop Food Waste -- One Decision at a Time
PRC has launched an initiative funded by the Posner Foundation to empower individuals to EAT WELL, SAVE MONEY and WASTE LESS by implementing easy, practical, and strategic methods for preventing and reducing food waste.
Education efforts were in overdrive this spring, when PRC reached 3,505 K12 students attending 12 schools and 769 adults in the community and in businesses, helping them learn to steward the environment. PRC also received a new $25,000 education grant from the PA DEP.

New Interactive Map Makes It Easy to Find Glass Recycling Bins
Visit www.prc.org/glass to view a western PA map displaying locations of permanent glass drop-off bins as well as locations of PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin, which makes weeklong appearances at a variety of sites.

Collection Events Continue
A collection at PPG Paints Arena in April kicked off PRC's 2023 collection campaign.

In June, PRC welcomed Boyd Jones to the Board of Directors.
For the past four years, Mr. Jones -- who serves as Business Support Manager at Michael Brothers Companies -- has worked in partnership with PRC to establish and expand a highly successful region-wide glass recycling collaborative.
We are deeply saddened to report the passing of John Fillo, PhD, a pivotal leader and beloved member of the PRC community.
Dr. Fillo served as president and a member of the board of directors for 15 years and helped drive many of PRC’s important accomplishments on behalf of PA’s environment.
