Day of Reflection: Amsterdam Day of Declaration
On August 27, 2025, Humanist Canada will mark the Day of Reflection: Amsterdam Day of Declaration—a special opportunity to revisit the foundational principles that guide Humanists around the world. This date honours the Amsterdam Declaration, a landmark statement highlighting key values like reason, ethical living, human dignity, and freedom of thought. Originally adopted in Amsterdam in 1952 and reaffirmed in later years, the Declaration remains at the heart of Humanist philosophy.
The Day of Reflection is a reminder for Humanist Canada members and supporters to consider how these values shape our individuallives and contribute to a more just, compassionate, and rational society. Whether through advocacy, outreach, or everyday actions, Humanist Canada’s mission is deeply rooted in these principles.
Webinar: A Humanist Response to Gender-Based Violence
Our featured presenter, Catherine Dunphy—writer, poet, and women’s rights advocate—will share insights on how Social Emotional Learning and mindfulness can strengthen empathy and contribute to reducing gender-based violence.
Catherine will discuss how Humanists can take the lead in ending gender-based violence, drawing from her personal experiences and advocacy work. Catherine is a founding member and former Executive Director of the Clergy Project, author of From Apostle to Apostate, and a dedicated activist amplifying programs that help prevent violence against women.
Join the Humanist Canada English Book Club as they dive into Less is More by Jason Hickel
This book tackles the root cause of ecological collapse—the capitalist drive for endless growth—and offers an inspiring vision for what a postβcapitalist economy could look like: one that’s more just, more caring, and more fun, while living in balance with nature.
