2021 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community

Spring has arrived in Pennsylvania and it’s the perfect time to take a walk and support BIAPA.  But not just any walk.  Since the 2021 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community is once again a virtual walk, you can be a part of this annual event at any location in Pennsylvania --and beyond.  How does it work?

Register and join a team based in the Lehigh Valley and Pittsburgh - or start one of your own.  Any time until July 15, you choose how and when to walk (treadmill, park, trail, or around the neighborhood). You can also pick the time of when you start and stop and the distance.

Special Friends of BIAPA Highmark Competition
BIAPA is adding to the fun with a Friends of BIAPA Highmark competition for individuals and teams who document their walks on Facebook.  Categories are:

  • Walking the most miles
  • Walking in a location the farthest distance from Harrisburg
  • Walking in the most unusual location

Three individual winners in each category will receive a restaurant or grocery store gift card.

Team winners - including the team that raises the most money for BIAPA - will be recognized at the BIAPA Annual Conference in Lancaster in October.

Survivor Support

BIAPA_Survivor_Creations.png

The Brain Injury Association of Pennsyvlania is  creating a new space for survivors on our website. It will be easier to navigate and to help you keep in the know about what's coming up!

Another cool thing . . . we want to feature YOU!   We want to show off your skills and talents.   Whatever your talent is, from painting to photography to singing or dancing, we want to see it all.

Please email your pictures or videos that showcase your incredible talent to survivorsupport@biapa.org with Survivor Creations as the subject line.

If you have any questions, Tracy Yatsko will be responding to emails and will help you walk through the process. Thank you for being a part of our family. We hope to hear from you soon!

Support Group Corner

BIAPA State-Wide Support Group

The upcoming BIAPA State-Wide Support Group will be an open forum, held on Thursday, June 17 at 5:30 pm.  All are welcome!  Join us and meet people from a variety of locations across Pennsylvania. We send a link to the meeting to those on our distribution list each month, as well as a reminder the day of the meeting. If you would like to be included in the distribution list, please send a message to us at survivorsupport@biapa.org.

Other Virtual Support Group Meetings

It is encouraging that so many support groups are meeting virtually.  CLICK HERE to download a list of the groups who are meeting through videoconferencing. If you are interested in attending a virutal meeting, please reach out to the person listed as the contact for the group so that you can learn how to join the meeting.

A full list of all support groups with contact information for each is also on the BIAPA website's Support Group Listing Page. If you are aware of groups that are meeting through videoconferencing, please contact Candace Gantt, BIAPA Vice-President, at candace.gantt@verizon.net, so we can let others know.
