WGEP’s Library in Kenya is Now Open!

We are so pleased to announce the opening of the first community library and computer center in Tharaka Nithi County Kenya! On October 8, after 4 years of hard work and collaboration with our partners at USAID, this transformative project is now a reality. 🎉

The library is stocked with more than 10,000 books and equipped with 25 computers, providing much-needed access to reading materials and internet resources. This space will serve as a hub for learning, literacy, and growth, benefiting students, teachers, and families alike.

We look forward to seeing how this new resource will inspire a love of reading and open doors for the whole community! ✨ Thank you for helping us achieve this dream!

Our First-Ever Back-to-School at LOULOU Event Was a Success!

FG0A5179.jpg
We recently hosted our first Back to School at LOULOU event, and it was an unforgettable evening! Attendees enjoyed a delicious four-course dinner with wine pairings, all masterfully prepared by 2024 James Beard Award-Winning Restaurateur, Chef Jason Hammel.

A highlight of the night was hearing from Casimir Coly, WGEP’s Senegal Program Coordinator, who shared powerful stories about the challenges girls face in accessing education and the transformative impact of empowering them with a voice.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue working to meet our fundraising goal for our back-to-school campaign and transform the lives of young girls through education. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Changemakers in Senegal

Our Sisters Lead, Senegal’s leadership program continues to provide opportunities for changemakers to contribute to their communities, even after they graduate from the program and high school.  When the new school year started a few weeks ago, in early October, changemakers from previous years joined Program Assistant Khady Ndong on visits to elementary schools around the region to discuss menstrual health and hygiene with young girls in elementary school. Many of these girls have begun menstruating, but because the topic is often considered taboo in rural households, they do not understand what is happening to them. The changemakers were able to impart knowledge and skills on how to manage menstruation to the young girls and answered their questions. In addition to providing information about menstrual health and hygiene, the changemakers also serve as mentors and role models to the elementary school girls. One of the changemakers who participated in this event is now a university student studying medicine and took the opportunity to urge the audience of young girls to study hard, stay in school, and continue their education beyond high school.
