What is Seizure First Aid Certification?

Seizure First Aid Certification training increases the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognize seizures and safely administer seizure first aid. Those who successfully complete the course will receive a two-year certification.

Knowing how to help someone during a seizure can make a difference and save a life. While everyone should know basic seizure first aid, becoming seizure first aid certified helps further with learning about epilepsy, recognizing signs of a seizure, using basic seizure first aid steps, and knowing when emergency medical help is needed.

Seizure First Aid Certification is designed for people who:

  • Have a family member, loved one, or friend with seizures
  • Have a job where you provide care for people with seizures
  • Have a job where you work with the public or work with someone who has or could potentially have seizures
  • Coach or lead groups

If your workplace or school would benefit from Seizure First Aid Training, contact us to schedule your FREE Zoom or in-person course.

Meet Michael Crisafulli....

My connection to the Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware is deeply personal. My mother has lived with epilepsy her whole life, but it wasn’t until May 2020—at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—that she experienced two unexpected grand mal seizures. It was a frightening and life-changing moment for our family. With so much uncertainty, especially around the virus, we all came together to support her in the best ways we could. During that time, I moved in with her to help with daily care, while also quarantining to keep her safe.
Watching my mom adjust to new medications, manage memory lapses, and work toward adapting to her new normal was incredibly difficult. It’s hard to see

someone you love go through something you can’t fix—but my family and I were there to support her every step of the way. That time brought us closer and deepened my understanding of what living with epilepsy really looks like—not just for the person experiencing it, but for those around them.
Through it all, my mom taught me what resilience truly looks like. I watched her go from a place of deep struggle to finding ways to be functional in her community and build a life that works for her—despite the challenges. Her strength, adaptability, and determination continue to inspire me every day.
Now, I’m proud to serve on the EFDE Board alongside my mom. It’s a unique and meaningful way for me to give back—to advocate for others facing similar challenges and to support a community that’s been part of our lives in such an important way. I’m especially passionate about contributing new ideas through the Finance Committee and helping EFDE grow its impact across Delaware.
Being part of this community reminds me that while epilepsy brings challenges, it also brings people together—and I’m grateful to be a part of that.
