As the wildfire recovery continues across the Los Angeles area, the BFOA wants to remind broadcasters in Southern California that Emergency Grants are available for those who qualify.
"We have extended our Emergency Grant deadline for those facing hardship due to the Los Angeles fires to ensure the BFOA is able to provide financial assistance to broadcasters who are in need,” stated Tim McCarthy President of the BFOA.
The Emergency Grant Application can be completed from a mobile device or computer. Click below to check your eligibility and apply for aid or visit www.broadcastersfoundation.org/emergencygrants.
If you are unable to complete the application online, please contact us for accommodations at grants@thebfoa.org or 212-373-8250.
The BFOA is here to support all our colleagues in Southern California. We thank those on the front line, reporting critical updates and evacuation information and we hope everyone is able to stay safe during this crisis.
"Support from the BFOA has been instrumental in allowing Dave to live a comfortable and dignified life.”
David Baker began his 20-year sports broadcasting career in 1985, and held positions both behind and in front of the camera. A diehard sports enthusiast, Dave was a marathon runner, showcasing his dedication and passion for athletics. He is most proud of his daughter’s successful career in New York City.
In 2013, Dave was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. Huntington’s disease is a rare condition that causes nerve cells in the brain to decay over time and affects a person’s movements, thinking ability, and mental health. Medicines are available to help manage the symptoms of Huntington’s disease, however, treatments can’t prevent the physical, mental, and behavioral decline caused by the disease.
The support from the BFOA has been instrumental in allowing Dave to live a comfortable and dignified life. Despite the challenges he faces, Dave remains active and gets out nearly every day, walking to almost every destination. Dave is a regular attendee at the monthly support group meetings for People Living with Huntington’s Disease. He greatly values hearing about others’ experiences, challenges, and triumphs while navigating through the disease.
Dave has been receiving a monthly grant from the Broadcasters Foundation of America since 2018. Without the BFOA’s assistance, Dave would likely have to spend his remaining time in a nursing home. Dave is profoundly grateful for the support he receives from the BFOA, which has significantly improved his quality of life.
