Are you looking for transformative ideas to energize and inspire climate action?

Rights of Nature, a millennia-old idea that has re-emerged in the 21st century, transforms the people-nature relationship and helps us rediscover our place in the web of life.

With this paradigm shift, our values, ethics, laws, and behaviors can shift, and we are better positioned to meet the climate and biodiversity global emergencies.

Modern societies and economic systems are rooted in an ethical framework that views humans as separate from and superior to nature. When we understand that we are nature, and that the societies and economies we create are wholly dependent upon nature, the logic for recognizing the rights of nature emerges, and we align ourselves with ecological reality. Recent scientific findings are illuminating what many Indigenous Peoples have known for millennia – nature is a connected, living, intelligent whole.

For more information about rights of nature and of wetlands, visit the Eco Jurisprudence Monitor and the Rights of Wetlands website.

Great reads are: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer and The Politics of Rights of Nature by Craig Kauffman and Pam Martin.

We’re excited to welcome Gillian Davies to our Climate Leaders Conference, where she’ll be leading the breakout session, Rights of Nature: A Complementary Means for Addressing Climate Change by Recognizing Rights of Wetlands.

Earth Day is a great reminder that small, everyday choices can add up to real impact. Every small action helps protect our planet, and together, these everyday choices add up to something bigger.
