Women in Data Science (WiDS) Charlottesville 2024 is organized by the University of Virginia School of Data Science as part of the annual WiDS Worldwide Conference hosted by Stanford University with an estimated 200+ locations worldwide.

This year's event theme "Leadership In the Digital Age" will include panel discussions with industry experts, technical workshops, mentor roundtables, resume reviews, and a keynote by alumnus Laura Ipsen (UVA '86), president and CEO of Ellucian. WiDS Charlottesville is a free event that will be held at Newcomb Hall, and all are welcome to attend.

Girls' Geek Days are all about sparking elementary school-aged girls' interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) by providing a fun, collaborative, hands-on environment to learn new skills and helping them connect to other STEM programs in the community.

Registration available February 16.

CAPITAL REGION CELEBRATION OF WOMEN
IN COMPUTING (CAPWIC)
April 5th - 6th

Capital Region Celebration of Women in Computing (CAPWIC) is currently seeking submissions for the upcoming conference to be held at UVA.

 

UVA ENGINEERING EXPERIENCES
August 5th - 9th
(Applications Open in February)

Bio-Med Tech-Girls is expanding to include other engineering disciplines through a new and improved UVA Engineering Experiences program! This summer there are tracks for biomedical engineering and civil and environmental engineering.

The program is brought to you by UVA School of Engineering and Applied Science in collaboration with Tech-Girls and the School of Education and Human Development. The week will be filled with guest speakers, lab tours, hands-on activities, and design challenges!

Applications will open in February.

Ready to join others in community? Consider becoming a CWIT member!

What is it?  Membership is free.  It is a declarative statement that YOU are an active part of the community.  To be a member you just need to:

(1) sign up

(2) commit only 1 to 5 hours annually to the CWIT community through attending a meeting, connecting with a common interest cohort, speak at a virtual event, give back to the Tech community, mentor and so much more!    

Why Membership? CWIT membership is the best way to connect locally to other women in our tech community for support, advice, and network. 

Through membership you can:

    • Join private networking groups that volunteer or lunch together
    • Access our private CWIT Slack channel
    • Give back one or two times per year with coordinated volunteer opportunities
    • Receive free CWIT swag
    • Free attendance to all events (even those few that have fees)
    • Add CWIT membership to your resume

Middle school participants had the opportunity to get behind-the-scenes at WillowTree at a Yes We Tech event this past January. They got a tour of the state-of-the-art space, learned about the variety of roles it takes to make award-winning apps from a women in tech panel discussion and got hands-on experience designing their own apps!

CBS19 stopped by Girls' Geek Day this past Saturday and highlighted the awesome high school student volunteers! The high school students ran a majority of the sessions including OctoStudio, robot petting zoos, marble-powered computers, building challenges, binary bracelets, plus an Albemarle High School robotics team brought their competition robot.
