Dear Pam:

Truly difficult to believe that we are at December. Are you as baffled as I that holiday cards are already arriving in the mail? The year seems to have moved at lightning speed; perhaps because it has been so busy.

I hope this year has been good to you and yours. I suspect that your year, too, has been busy. I know that you have choices with your time and am truly appreciative of the time and talent that you bring to your friends group. Thank you again for all that you do for our state parks and forests. We at PPFF wish you and yours a pleasant and relaxing holiday.

Yours in the Outdoors,

Marci

TRAINING

We'll kick off the New Year with a series of Zoom calls for assistance in completing your annual reports and for policy review as well. We envisioned these mostly for new officers; however, ALL are most welcome. Anyone who needs a refresher will benefit and your hints and help for your fellow officers will be invaluable for everyone.

The Zoom link will be the same each session so mark your calendars for those relevant to you.

Passcode: 338389

Dial by your location

        +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)

1/10: Chapter Chairs (especially those in their first year) - Conversations and Q&A
1/20: Treasurers - ask that all treasurers plan to attend this refresher (or schedule an individual coaching session). We are finding significant gaps in process and protocol, some of which jeopardizes our "good standing" for all chapters and PPFF as a whole.
2/9: Chairs and Secretaries (taking minutes, building agendas, meeting process)
2/24: Open to all for review of financial policies (SGOC, silent auctions, grants, etc.)

DO

Do let us know if you intend to host a First Day Hike so that we can be sure to promote it.

Remember that your annual report is due by January 30th. For those new to the Foundation, we will discuss the reports at the January 10th Zoom meeting, but feel free to reach out at any time if you have a question.

As mentioned in the November Tidbits, due to the increase in sales as part of our audit, we are now asked to keep an inventory of goods that are being sold. This means all of us—chapters and PPFF main office. The auditor provided a simple to use template that will be required of all groups, regardless of the volume of sales you have. The inventory should be completed in December/January, June/July, December. It will help you to track any losses and also ensure that not too much of your funds are tied up in inventory.

KNOW

As you know for several years we, along with other conservation organizations, have been working very hard to have funds allocated for maintenance and infrastructure in our state parks and forests. This fall, a bill (SB 525) was introduced by Senator Gordner to allocate a portion of the American Rescue Plan funds to such needs, as well as create a new version of Growing Greener.

Now a companion bill is being introduced by Representative Lynda Culver in the House. PPFF is currently working to get additional co-sponsors on this pending bill, knowing that the more cosponsors it has, the more likely it will be to move. Please reach out to your state House member and ask him or her to consider supporting this important bill for our state parks and forests. Here is a link to the co-sponsorship memo and a link to our most recent fact sheet on the needs in our parks and forests.

SHARE

Who doesn’t love a good video? Our YouTube channel boasts several new additions, including our brand new videos on the health benefits of outdoor recreation, with a long-form video along with shorter snippets on physical, mental, and emotional health. We would love to see these videos shared far and wide so please do send the links on to anyone who would benefit with a little encouragement to enjoy the outdoors. In every season! If you have contacts in the health insurance industry, medical schools, or workplace health programs and have any ideas on how we might get these videos into their hands and on their screens, that would be great.

Videos for each of our #ERA50 song contest winners are now housed on the channel as well!

We will be working on our February newsletter in mid-January. If you have any accomplishments that you would like to share, send a picture with a caption and we will do our best to feature it.
