Tales
July 2023
Welcome to the Dove Tales, a monthly e-blast to our most ardent PVNC supporters. Here you’ll find links to upcoming programs, volunteer and membership news, and updates on projects. We hope this provides the resources you need to stay informed and engaged!
Director's Note
The summer solstice has passed and we inch our way into the heat of the season. Summer camps are in full swing, volunteers continue to remove invasive species and keep our feeders filled and cleaned, and several key projects have made major headways.
In June, our Board voted to approve funds to begin a Master Trail Plan, and collection of data commenced July 8 and concluded on July 14. Undertaken by Penn Trails, the project will map existing trails, note their condition, and make recommendations for improvement. The data will be used to create a new trail map and the resulting report will provide "shovel ready" projects that put us in a better position to secure funding for trail improvements.
Phase 1 of the Nature Play Zone was also completed and we are over the moon at the results! There's still more to add - including signs, educational activities, and a dedication ceremony (see details below) - but feel free to stop by and check it out.
We've also welcomed a group of dedicated teens from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation this summer. They've been hard at work spreading woodchips, trimming trail overgrowth, and deep cleaning the inside of the nature center.
We continue to be blessed with support from our members and community. We hope you stop by and see how much we've grown!
See you on the trails,
Kelly Joslin

Held at Peace Valley Nature Center
Support Peace Valley Nature Center by attending our biggest fundraiser of the year! Held on the beautiful shores of Lake Galena, the celebration includes live music, silent auction, door prizes, and an extraordinary selection of craft beers expertly paired with tasty harvest foods and desserts served by B&B Beverages and Penn Taproom.
This festive event is brought to you by the Friends of Peace Valley NatureCenter and sponsored by the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation. Ticket sales, sponsorships and raffle donations help sustain environmental education and conservation at Peace Valley Nature Center.
Hollywood movies are notorious for making us believe certain animals make better villains than heroes. Take bats for example. Movies would have us believe we should fear the world’s only flying mammals because, like Dracula, they only want our blood. While vampire bats do exist in certain parts of the world ...
A single Big Brown Bat can consume 6,000-8,000 mosquitoes in a single night!
