Dear Community Members:
March is here and I'm sure that we're all ready for Spring! The past two weeks have continued our amazing journey of offering a large variety of adaptive sports to everyBODY! We also spent time with 550 children at Sacred Heart School having them experience adaptive sports and learning more about capabilities and inclusion! Please take the time to look through the photos from our highlights!
Yesterday SoCal Adaptive Sports and four other terrific individuals were honored by Legacy Bridges Foundation. Their mission is to support individuals and families living with the disease of Epilepsy, the incurable neurological disorder in which abnormal brain activity causes seizures or other unnatural behaviors, or caring for someone who does.
Legacy Bridges is run by Melanee A. Stovall and I am so impressed by the work that she is doing, including leading cheerleading sessions for us, stay tuned for an April date, that I've decided to become a monthly donor! It's vital to support small organizations, leaders with passion, who are making a huge impact in their geographic area of the world!
In accepting our award I chose to speak about integritywhich is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. I've been thinking quite a bit about integrity quite and what it means, especially as I make my way through the world. For me this is about telling the truth, being forthright , being sensitive to others, responding in a timely fashion and not "ghosting people, even if you have to give them information which they might not want to hear, listening and appreciating people in our lives. Unfortunately, all too often I find this lacking in many. (Maybe it's something that has hit me more as I've aged.) I'm not entirely sure why this is the case but I do my best to live a life of integrity. Given our very fast paced world in which anything can be said, it's vital that we think about how we can live a life of integrity and be authentic in our dealings with others.
Check out this video/article about my friend Andrea Woodson-Smith who is being inducted into the Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Fame! Very well deserved!
Take a look at our programs. We heard you say that you wanted to have a dinner at Covered Wagon and we've made this possible at $25/person. Usually the cost is $119/person for the full BBQ, dance and covered wagon ride. But Bill Blaser has given us a great rate so that you only have to pay $25/person with SoCal Adaptive Sports subsidizing your experience through a grant from Hanger Foundation! Another special activity we have going on is an overnight at Pathfinder Ranch in two weeks. We've opened this up to our larger community. One person with disability can attend with one family member or caregiver. Come out to CV High School on the 23rd for the second annual adaptive sports fair and then if you are a high school student join us at the prom! Also we will be hiking on the 9th, as well as golfing! Should be a fun-filled March in preparation for an amazing April! Sign up now so that you don't miss out!
