Good morning, John,

We're starting off your week with an invitation to file a witness slip for a bill that is being heard by the Illinois Senate Transportation committee on Wednesday. Filing a witness slip means that you go on record in support of a bill.

  • SB2285 Definition of a Bicycle: This bill amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to redefine a "bicycle" as every human-powered or low-speed electric vehicle with 2 or more wheels not less than 12 inches in diameter, designed for the transportation of one or more persons.

NOTE: SB2285 aims to make it legal for people to ride trikes, adaptive trikes, and other bicycles and e-bikes with two or more wheels on Illinois roads. SB2285 does not include any changes to e-bike classification. Illinois recognized three classes of low-power e-bikes in 2018, joining 40 other states.

Follow the steps below to file a witness slip today
  1. CLICK HERE to access SB2285 on the Illinois General Assembly website.
  2. In box I, add your name, address, and contact info.
  3. In box II, write "NA", "Self", or the name of an organization you are authorized to represent.
  4. In box III, leave the “original bill” field alone and select “proponent.”
  5. In box IV, check “record of appearance only.”
  6. Agree to the terms of agreement, and then hit “Create(Slip)” in the lower right hand corner.

Voicing your support could result in the bill passing the Senate Transportation committee during Wednesday's hearing. Please share this message with others who may be interested in seeing SB2285 become law. Thanks!
