AMP/TJR Youth Apprenticeship Program seeking companies to host apprentices! The Apprenticeship Maryland Program/Tech Jobs Rule (AMP/TJR) and the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center (FCTC) welcome local companies to participate in the Youth Apprenticeship Program. We are looking to increase the number of apprentices and business partners for the 2024-25 school year. In an effort to provide another successful apprenticeship program to our students next school year, we are seeking potential employers for the 2024-2025 cohort.  SMCPS Forest Tech Center will be working this spring to place students in apprenticeship positions that begin between June and September 2024. Saturday, 18 May 2024 NAWCAD and The Patuxent Partnership (TPP) are pleased to announce the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics - Inspiring the Next Generation (STEM-ING) event for the eleventh year. The STEM-ING 2024 event will be at the St. Mary's College of Maryland campus, St. Mary's City, MD. This one-day STEM-ING event is designed for middle school girls in the tri-county region to gain confidence in STEM and learn about STEM fields and associated careers. Throughout the day, 100 young women will hear from Wonder Women, positive role models in the STEM industry and academia, and will have an opportunity to select from up to 10 fun, interactive, and challenging STEM related workshops. If you are interested in volunteering, please see the committee descriptions below where we need help and register via Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2024-stem-ing-volunteer-registration-tickets-795469539807 . We also welcome High School volunteers, but ask that they register with Facilities, Events, or as a Workshop Assistant. CSM Alum Destiny Morgan Establishes ‘Kuinua Together’ Scholarship to Uplift Future Tech Leaders - Over the past five years, the Foundation has awarded an average of over 600 scholarships a year for a total of more than $4 million. The National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) announces open season for Scholarship Applications for the 2024/2025 Academic Year. Applications are being accepted now through April 15th via email, NDTAHQ@ndtahq.com. NDTA wants to provide scholarships to students pursuing an education in logistics, transportation, or passenger travel. The goal is to foster the growth and development of logistics and transportation professionals. They provide students with scholarships, and with the opportunity to join the Industry Connect Program (ICP). 2024 Naval Horizons is now live! Naval Horizons is a student essay contest introducing students to cutting-edge STEM topics impacting the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps through an engaging video series. The STEM topics in the video series include space weather, aerospace optometry, epidemiology, machine learning and more! The Office of Personnel Management, U.S. Digital Service and Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Performance and Personnel Management want ideas on how to train government HR professionals into experts in recruiting and hiring tech talent.   • Exhibition at Boyden Gallery (SMCM) through March 6 - "It’s in the Water: Art and Environmental Advocacy" Opening Celebration, Artist Dialogue Opening February 6th - Come consider local and global environmental issues through the work of two multimedia artists at the exhibition. Mark Cooper's installation "Aftermath," a collaborative work with a team of Boston College professors and students, addresses how the global economy of throwaway consumption disproportionately impacts the Global South. Billy Friebele engages both the history and current state of the Anacostia River watershed in Washington, D.C. through video, sculpture, and interactive artworks. Their works offer creative meditations on current environmental impacts and crises and act as calls for engagement and environmental action. Exhibition is free and open to the public.
