News & Events for Health Empowerment // January 5, 2023
Our Plant Powered community will honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy this month, recognizing that healthy food choices have the ability to transform the health of our communities. African-Americans are the fastest growing plant-based eaters compared to any other group because of our concern for our health, the environment, and animal welfare. We are bringing back to the fore foodways from indigenous cultures across the Diaspora which have kept our people strong for millennia, turning away from the food systems that have caused the rise of lifestyle conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and others that are preventable through the choices we make.
Come out and celebrate freedom, fun, and food in Dr. King’s memory, as we take back our health and support Black-owned eateries in the boroughs and in Westchester County to prove that you don’t have to leave your neighborhood to eat well!
Keep the faith and be well!
