"Mason Holmes on Memorial Brick Garden in Georgetown"
Join us for a presentation by Mason Holmes, the Brick Committee Chairman for the Veterans Memorial Advisory Group(VMAG). He is responsible for soliciting orders for the Memorial Bricks, which are placed in the Veterans Memorial Plaza, located in Sun City. The Plaza contains nearly 7,000 inscribed bricks, with room for 5,000 more. These honor the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines, both living and deceased, who’ve served our country from the American Revolution through the current day. Any resident of Williamson County can place a brick or bricks in the plaza. VMAG sponsors three main ceremonies, on Memorial Day, 9/11, and Veterans Day. We include a keynote speaker and a variety of local groups as co-sponsors.
Mason served as a draftee in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He was with the 1st (Air) Cavalry Division in the Republic of Vietnam(RVN) during 1970-1971. A 1969 graduate of Duke University and native of Buffalo, NY, he has spent his career with defense contractors in Chicago, IL, Norfolk, VA, Washington, DC, and Raleigh, NC, prior to settling in Georgetown, TX (Sun City) for the last 6 years. He has enjoyed his stops along the way and has met many fascinating people.

The Poppy Project is a community-based art initiative that invites people of all ages and skill levels to create and contribute poppy-inspired artwork for a special April exhibition at The Williamson Museum.
Poppies have long symbolized remembrance, resilience, and hope. Through this project, we’re exploring how those ideas connect to personal stories, shared history, and collective memory—told through art made by our community.
Participants can submit completed works to be considered for display or join us during one of our hands-on Art Project Days on March 17, 18, or 19, where we’ll provide guided poppy-themed art activities in a relaxed, creative setting. No prior art experience required—just curiosity and a willingness to create.
