Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary
The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was originally known as Our Lady of Victory, in honor of the Holy League’s defeat of the Ottoman Empire in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Even though the Turkish forces were very powerful, the Christians won due to the intercession of Mary and the prayer of the Most Holy Rosary.
But in celebrating this feast day we are not simply marking one historical event.
The battles, large and small, are always ongoing: in our personal lives, our families, our world and our Church. But Our Blessed Mother is always there for us--always ready to lead us to victory.
Because She loves us. She is our Mother.
In each of Her appearances down through the centuries, Mary has taught us something, given us weapons -- such as the Rosary and the Scapular -- with which to fight the enemy. She has given us "Light" to unveil his treachery.
She has also given us Her Heart as a refuge.
We need not be afraid. Fear is sterile. Fear is deadly to the soul.
Carry Her in your heart into every potential battle.
Invoke Her Peace over yourself, as a Mantle, as a protective shield. Breathe Her Peace. Drink it. Let it refresh your soul. Take a breath, say Her Name. Ask for Her Peace, and She will come. She will surround you and help you in your own Lepantos.
"Mary, Queen of Peace, banish all fear from the hearts of Your children."

OBEDIENCE ?
In these confusing times, how are we to understand the virtue of obedience? In this talk we will reflect on examples from Scripture, the Catechism, Aquinas and others in an effort to understand the Mystery of the Church, and how we are called to live obedience.
(This is a repeat of the talk that was given on Sept. 23.)
Brown Scapular Investiture This Saturday
Every First Saturday of the month we have a simple Rite of Investiture with the Brown Scapular after our 8 AM Mass for all those interested. Please bring your own Scapular or you may acquire one at our Sacramental house, which is open whenever the Mission grounds are open.
The Sisters' new residence will provide housing for eight women. It includes a chapel, visitor's parlor, office space and a sewing room. An architectural firm drew up the initial plans, so that we would be code compliant, but for subsequent changes and follow-up we have relied heavily on the talents of Sr. Amapola who studied architecture for two years before entering the religious life. Sr. Amapola, along with Mother Magdalene, has been involved in every building that we have constructed at the Mission, adding considerable on-the-job experience to her formal education. Her oversight is demanding a great deal of her time, but it is saving us considerable expense in the ongoing construction.
The roofline is complete and the sheeting began to be added this week. Substantial rain on Thursday ( Thanks be to God!!) prevented a more current photo.
"This is what MDM is called to be: a growing communion of trust in His Mercy for our needy world." ~ Fr. John Mary
MDM started encouraging people to pray "Jesus, I trust in You" ten times a day back in 2011. Recently we felt it was important to remind people to turn to Jesus with this simple, powerful prayer in a world that feels more and more out of control. We are suggesting 20 times, but some people find themselves repeating it hundreds of times. It reminds our troubled souls that GOD IS IN CONTROL.
Many of you have put your name on our growing list and have also left a prayer intention or testimony:
Dear Lord, we ask You, Who always hears us, for Bryan Guerrero's health. He is very young and suffers from cancer. May Your will be done.~Teresa

I am trying very hard to be a better Christian but seem to be slipping in the last month and losing hope. I feel comfort since finding and doing The Divine Chaplet the last several months but have gotten out of the habit this last few weeks so getting back to it. ~ Anonymous
