3/26/2025 - TPP 3rd Annual Defense Summit
Thursday, January 30, 2025 | 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm Book Signing with Colin Flint, Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Utah State University. Flint will present his book “Near and Far Waters: The Geopolitics of Seapower”. He has published research on geopolitics, China’s Belt and Road Initiative, World War II, world-systems analysis, and just war theory. He is the author of Introduction to Geopolitics, 3rd edition (Routledge, 2017) and co-author, with Peter J. Taylor of the foundational and renowned text Political Geography: World-Economy, Nation-State and Locality (Prentice Hall, 7th edition, 2018).
He is editor of The Geography of War and Peace (Oxford University Press, 2004) and co-editor (with Scott Kirsch) of Reconstructing Conflict: Integrating War and Post-War Geographies (Ashgate, 2011).
While Director of the Program in Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign he was principal investigator for a $450,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation on the project entitled “Security Policy Formation: Bringing Scientific Expertise and Dialogue to Policymaker.”At SMSM- Cole Cinema, Campus Center - This program is co-sponsored by The Patuxent Partnership.

TPP – TECH BRIDGE – NAWCAD - NAVAIR
DONT MISS! January 22, 2025 | 1:00pm - 2:00pm- Tide Talks: PMA-251 and the SOMD Tech Bridge Collaborate with NAWCAD Lakehurst and the Liberty Tech Bridge.
Join the collaborative dialogue between the NavalX Liberty Tech Bridge at Rowan University and the NavalX Southern Maryland Tech Bridge at TechPort, featuring Captain Mike Kline, Program Manager, Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) Program Office (PMA-251), and Mr. Joseph Hader, Program Director Department Head Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment. They will be discussing the relationship between PMA-251 and NAWCAD Lakehurst and giving valuable insights into how industry can support ALRE and the warfighter.
PMA-251 provides life-cycle acquisition management for Navy and Marine Corps systems and equipment utilized for the launch and recovery of current and future fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. ALRE products include catapults, arresting gear, helicopter landing systems, wind measuring systems, aviation-based information systems, aviation marking and lighting, recovery systems and visual landing aids, aircraft firefighting equipment, and expeditionary airfield systems and related products.
NAWCAD Lakehurst is the Navy’s engineering support activity for ALRE and Naval Aviation Support Equipment (SE). It is the critical link between Naval Aviation and Navy Aircraft Carrier (CV) Battle Groups worldwide. NAWCAD Lakehurst is responsible for maintaining fleet support and infusing modern technology across the entire spectrum of equipment needed to launch, land, and maintain aircraft from ships at sea.
There will be no FAR acquisition information shared during this event, nor information on any projects currently under contract.
In-person attendance at each location will be limited to 45 (first come first serve) with an additional virtual option, where viewers can ask questions in the chat. The format for this event is interactive rather than a one-way sharing of information.

PEO(U&W)’s Industry Event 2025- will be “in-person only” on or near the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland. This Industry Event will consist of the following:
DAY ONE - Tuesday 11 March 2025 - Government Briefs to Industry (SECRET clearance required)
DAY ONE of the PEO(U&W) Industry Event 2025 will consist of SECRET level briefings and panel discussions/Q&A from government representatives and one SECRET//NOFORN Threat Brief. This opportunity is open to military, government and industry U.S. Citizens with a final SECRET clearance. Only contractors or sub-contractors performing a current DoD or Federal Intelligence Community contract with a current DD254 will be allowed to attend. A current DD254 authorizing access to national intelligence information will be required to attend the Threat Brief at the classification level of SECRET//NOFORN.
DAY TWO - Wednesday 12 March 2025 - PEO(U&W) Networking with Industry (No clearance required)
DAY TWO of the PEO(U&W) Industry Event 2025 will consist of UNCLASSIFIED, in-person meetings between Industry and representatives from various PEO(U&W) entities and is open to the public who have registered in advance for these meetings. Meetings will be in the "speed networking" format, will be a maximum of 10 minutes in length and must be requested in advance via the registration site. Attendees interested in registering for these meetings will be asked during the registration process to choose their top five choices, in priority order, from 15 available PEO(U&W) entities.
An RFI is expected to be released within the next few weeks via “SAM.gov Contract Opportunities” along with a link to the Eventbrite registration site. Please hold all questions about the Event until the RFI is released and the registration site is active

Friday, January 17, 2025 -The 2025 St. Mary’s County Science and Engineering Fair (SMCSEF) at the USMSM SMART Building. The award ceremony is on the same afternoon. The Science Fair is open to the St. Mary’s County residents and is the perfect venue for students to share their talents in experimental methodologies, engineering design and testing, and other scientific projects.

CALL FOR JUDGES - The St. Mary’s County Science and Engineering Fair will be held on Friday, January 17th, 2025 at USM SMART Building. (Snow date is Friday, January 24)
In-person judging starts at 8:00am until approx. 12:00. You also will have the opportunity to view an on-line presentation of each project and will be posted one week before the Fair.

Del. Brian Crosby 2025-26 SY Academic Scholarship Application!
This scholarship is intended to assist St. Mary's County students in furthering their education and pursuing their career goals. Del. Crosby strongly encourages students who will be first-generation college students and/or those who will pursue a certificate or licensure as part of a technical education to apply.
To apply, you must be a resident of Maryland Legislative District 29B, which covers the southern portion of St. Mary's County, including some areas of California, Lexington Park, Great Mills, Ridge, and others. If you are unsure whether you live in District 29B, you may confirm by using the Lookup option on the Maryland General Assembly's website linked below. You may apply as either a full-time or part-time student, however, you must be taking at least 6 credits per semester to qualify as a part-time student under Md. Code, Educ. § 18-504. If you have applied for this scholarship in the past, you may apply again as long as you remain a qualified student. This scholarship does not automatically renew. Students must reapply each year.

Applications are now open for TPP Pathways Scholarship – The scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan on attending the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and majoring in engineering will be eligible to receive a full scholarship to cover tuition, fees, and books for up to two years, providing they continue to meet the eligibility requirements and remain in good standing.

NASA’s fourth annual Power to Explore Student Challenge kicked off November 7, 2024. The science, engineering, technology, and mathematics (STEM) writing challenge invites kindergarten through 12th grade students in the United States to learn about radioisotope power systems, a type of nuclear battery integral to many of NASA’s far-reaching space missions.

Wednesday, January 29, 2025 | 5:30pm.- St Mary’s County Recreation & Parks will host a public information gathering on a proposed Sports Complex planned for a location in the California, Maryland area. The meeting will be held in the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County (CSMC) Meeting Room, Chesapeake Building - 1st Floor -41770 Baldridge St., Leonardtown, MD 20650
The purpose of this meeting is to allow the community to engage in meaningful discussions with the design team of Manns Woodward Studios of White Marsh Station, Maryland, and BallParchitecture of Bethesda, Maryland. All local citizens, other interested parties, and governmental agencies are requested to provide valuable input into the programing that would be potential for consideration for a sports complex in St. Mary's County. The study is a Maryland Stadium Authority led preliminary design project.
Additional public input opportunities will also be available online through surveys and additional gatherings will be scheduled during Spring 2025. Details and locations will be announced at a later date.

Appraisers will be available to members of the public for the following categories: fine arts, dolls, coins, and currency.
