For the last 11 years, NAWCAD and The Patuxent Partnership have collaborated to host the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics- Inspiring the Next Generation (STEM-ING) event. This one-day event, scheduled for May 18, 2024, is designed for middle school girls in the local tri-county region to gain more confidence in STEM activities and learn about STEM fields and associated careers. During this event, the students will attend 3 STEM related workshops. Our Workshop Team Leads, Laura Ross (laura.e.ross12.civ@us.navy.mil) and Kristen Finnegan (kristen.t.finnegan.civ@us.navy.mil), are looking for new workshop events and activities for the upcoming 2024 STEM-ING event. Please share your ideas.

UAS Research and Operations Center 2024 Summer Internships/Full-time, paid program!
- PAID full-time internships in southern Maryland at their 12,000 sq. ft. research hangar at St. Mary’s County Airport, near Naval Air Station Patuxent River
- Interns must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Summer 2024 internship program will run from Wednesday, May 29, 2024 – early August 2024
- Positions may be continued part-time into the academic year at the student’s home institution.
- Project must fly (or try!) by the end of the summer; It is a flight operations center!
- For students who do not live close enough to commute, the UROC will offer affordable local options. Details TBA.

CSM Alum Destiny Morgan Establishes ‘Kuinua Together’ Scholarship to Uplift Future Tech Leaders - Over the past five years, the Foundation has awarded an average of over 600 scholarships a year for a total of more than $4 million. The National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) announces open season for Scholarship Applications for the 2024/2025 Academic Year. Applications are being accepted now through April 15th via email, NDTAHQ@ndtahq.com. NDTA wants to provide scholarships to students pursuing an education in logistics, transportation, or passenger travel. The goal is to foster the growth and development of logistics and transportation professionals. They provide students with scholarships, and with the opportunity to join the Industry Connect Program (ICP). TPP Pathways to Engineering Scholarship Application for 2024 - 2025 is OPEN apply here: https://csmd.academicworks.com/opportunities/3953 The scholarship will be awarded to two graduating high school seniors who plan on attending CSM and majoring in engineering. Student(s) will be eligible to receive a full scholarship to cover tuition, fees, and books for up to two years, providing they continue to meet the eligibility requirements and remain in good standing. Del. Brian Crosby's academic scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year! This scholarship is intended to assist St. Mary's County students in furthering their education and pursuing their career goals. Del. Crosby strongly encourages students who will be first-generation college students and/or those who will pursue a certificate or licensure as part of a technical education to apply. In order to apply, you must be a resident of District 29B, which covers the southern portion of St. Mary's County, including California, Lexington Park, Great Mills, Ridge, and others.

Uncle Sam wants you to help train government HR to hire tech talent by Natalie Alms, Staff Reporter, Nextgov/FCW | January 19, 2024 - Several agencies are hosting a challenge with prize money meant to spur innovation in how the government hires techies. The Office of Personnel Management, U.S. Digital Service and Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Performance and Personnel Management want ideas on how to train government HR professionals into experts in recruiting and hiring tech talent. The offices are hosting a prize challenge on the General Services Administration’s Challenge.gov to source ideas and are offering up to $880,000 in cash prizes. The winner will be charged with developing and leading a pilot program to test the feasibility of their training for HR feds. SBA Growth Accelerator Fund Competition Opened January 8th to expand and strengthen its National Innovation Ecosystem | Organizations will compete in two stages for $50,000 to $200,000 in prizes; SBA to award up to $3 Million in Stage One Prizes- Published on January 8, 2024
The Stage One application portal opened on Jan. 8 for five weeks, and the SBA will award up to $3 million in Stage One prize money by April. - Exhibition at Boyden Gallery (SMCM) through March 6 - "It’s in the Water: Art and Environmental Advocacy" Opening Celebration, Artist Dialogue February 6th - Come consider local and global environmental issues through the work of two multimedia artists at the exhibition. Mark Cooper's installation "Aftermath," a collaborative work with a team of Boston College professors and students, addresses how the global economy of throwaway consumption disproportionately impacts the Global South. Billy Friebele '00 engages both the history and current state of the Anacostia River watershed in Washington, D.C. through video, sculpture, and interactive artworks. Their works offer creative meditations on current environmental impacts and crises and act as calls for engagement and environmental action. Exhibition is free and open to the public.
