How much water does it take to grow our food? Plant foods are much less water-intensive than farmed animals because we not only water the animals but also water the plants that feed them. Scientists estimate that people who eat a plant-based diet use about 1/13 the water that omnivores use. Cornell researcher David Pimental and colleagues wrote: "Approximately 1000 liters (L) of water are required to produce 1 kilogram (kg) of cereal grain, and 43,000 L to produce 1 kg of beef." Eating lower down on the food chain -- plants instead of animals – reduces our collective impact on our water systems.
Give yourself the chance to experience the healing power of whole plant foods! Our 21-Day Plant Powered Jumpstart explores why a plant-based diet is optimal for health and teaches the practical skills to make the transition easier — all with the support of our educators, facilitators, and peer mentors.
