Food Pantry Usage Surpasses All of Last Year

Food%20Donations.jpg

The Sun Prairie Food Pantry has now served more families, households, and unique people than it did in all of 2023. And this comes after the pantry already faced record demand last year. As more people than ever turn to the pantry to help make ends meet, we are grateful to be part of a community that works together to help our neighbors in need.

How can you help?

☀️ Make a financial donation. Our ability to purchase food at wholesale allows us to stretch each donation dollar. Consider setting up a monthly donation to spread out your gift and offer ongoing support. Click HERE to donate online.

☀️ Donate food and personal care items or host a drive. Drop off your own donations or click HERE to learn more about ideas for hosting a drive.

☀️ Volunteer your time. We have many opportunities available, including stocking shelves, sorting donations, helping clients shop, prepping snack bags for kids, and more. Click HERE to learn more about how you can make a difference as a volunteer.

The pantry relies on the generosity of volunteers and donors to keep its shelves stocked, and the need is greater than ever. Thank you for helping us continue to be a source of hope and help for families facing food insecurity.

Community Steps Up to Provide Summer Lunches

This summer, we served an incredible 6,115 lunches to kids in the community through our Summer Lunch Program in partnership with Sun Prairie Community Schools. Thank you to the businesses, groups, families, and individuals who helped make this program a success. Almost 300 volunteers helped in every step of the process, from making sandwiches, packing bags, and handing out lunches to kids at our neighborhood stops. More than 20 groups also generously sponsored lunches. This community-driven program not only keeps children fed throughout the summer, it shows them that their neighbors care about their wellbeing. Our community is one in a million for making a program like this possible. Thank you! Click HERE to learn more about this and other community-based programs that work to keep kids fed all year round.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

The impact of Sunshine Place in the community is only possible through the kindness of the individuals and businesses who donate and volunteer to support our programs. Below are just a few recent highlights of this support:

This is what $1,000 worth of cereal and menstrual hygiene products looks like. Thank you to the Orfan Park Morning Boot Camp group for their donation of these two essential items for the Sun Prairie Food Pantry. They contributed 176 boxes of cereal and 156 boxes of menstrual hygiene products to help keep our shelves  stocked for those in need. Thank you for sweating with a purpose!

A heartfelt thank you to the groups that provided volunteers and food to serve at Sunshine Supper this past month. Each group served nearly or more than 500 free meals. Wow! Thank you to recent sponsor groups including Bank of Sun Prairie, Summit Credit Union, and Daly's Bar & Grill. Your generosity and hard work make a big impact as our numbers served continue to grow.

A group of high school students from Madison Country Day School rolled up their sleeves and baked nearly 800 cookies for our Sunshine Supper program! They baked, froze, and of course, taste-tested a few to ensure they're extra sweet for those they will be served to. Thank you for volunteering your time to spread kindness!
