THANK YOU!

Your support will allow us to continue hands-on experiences and education to inspire future generations of ocean stewards

We asked -- you answered.

Together we raised $38,000 for programs that continue to build lifelong connections to the incredibly diverse and complex marine life in the Salish Sea.

Providing low-cost or free field trips and classroom programs to underserved schools and families is core to our work.

PTMSC provided scholarships to 75% of the children and youth in our classes, camps, and at-school programs in the past year.

Student field trips and summer camps have inspired generations of ocean stewards. With your support, we will continue this essential work in our community.

Haven't donated yet? It's not too late!

“Humpback Whales Generate 'Thrums'”

Dr%20Fred%20Sharpe.jpg
Presented by

Dr. Fred Sharpe

Salish Sea-based Whale Biologist

Sunday, November 16, 3 p.m.

Wheeler Theater
at
Fort Worden Historical State Park

Humpback whales produce varied aerial sounds including trumpets, shrikes, hoots and clicks. Fred Sharpe and his team have been listening to these sounds for many years, but recently turned their attention to recording the low frequency, elephant-like, far-traveled, aerial rumbles or “thrums”. The lecture will feature sounds, slides and the scientific inquiry conducted at Five Finger Lighthouse in Southeast Alaska, and what might be learned from these remarkable aerial signals.

PTMSC is proud to host a new exhibit at our downtown Flagship Landing Gallery. "Under the Surface of the Salish Sea" showcases a selection of fiber and textile works inspired by life beneath the waves. Each work is created by a member of Peninsula Fiber Artists, and reflects a unique connection to the local marine environment. The exhibit features two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces, using a variety of materials and techniques that highlight the artistry and creativity of their makers. Works will be available for purchase, with a portion of the sales benefitting conservation programs at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center.

There is no admission fee, though donations are always welcome.
