Hurricane Recovery in Louisiana

Recovery continues after recent storms throughout the state.  Staff has been on the road to assist with assessing conditions of historic structures.  This week Executive Director Brian Davis is making stops in Thibodaux, Houma, and the River Parishes region.  He has also made visits to Lake Charles in recent months as community members look to rebuild and restore community landmarks.

Request for Auction Items

You or your company can help support historic preservation in Louisiana by donating for our first ever online auction fundraiser! After the second postponement of LTHP’s annual conference and ramble, our traditional silent auction is going virtual later this fall.  Nearly a dozen items have already been lined up and additional items are being accepted now through Friday October 1st.

The live auction will be launched later in mid-October and run through late November.  Suggested auction donation items include:

  • Art, photography, or collection of books
  • Overnight stays, tours, or experiences
  • Gift baskets of local goods and products
  • and other creative Louisiana themed items

To submit your donation or become an auction sponsor,  please contact Will Prince at 225-930-0936 or wprince@lthp.org.  Stay tuned for the live link and updates in October!

One of this year's auction items includes a stay at the Southern Hotel in Covington.

Spooky season is just around the corner...and after such popularity last year, we are bringing back our photo contest featuring Louisiana cemeteries (haunted or not)! Share a recent photo highlighting a historic cemetery here in Louisiana by Thursday October 14 to wprince@lthp.org.  Each participant can enter up to 3 jpeg images with the name of the cemetery and/or town where the cemetery is located.

Final entries will be uploaded to vote for your favorite on our Facebook page. The photo with the most likes will win a complimentary LTHP membership and bragging rights!  To learn more about preserving cemeteries, check out this playlist as part of growing educational video series.

Last year's winning photo was submitted by Donald Maginnis featuring a private cemetery near St. Francisville.
