LEAF Gardens Available for Community Group Gatherings

We’ve recently had the pleasure of welcoming several community groups to the LEAF Urban Gardens. The Fremont Senior Gardening Club brought 40 members to the LEAF Community Garden for a tour and conversation, and 17 members of the Shinn Gardeners joined us at the LEAF Urban Farm for a tour and lunch. We love seeing community groups use our gardens as places to gather, learn, and connect!

With the busy summer season winding down, the LEAF Urban Farm and LEAF Community Garden are opening up more opportunities for community groups to visit. We can accommodate groups of up to 40 people for tours, shared lunches, volunteering, conversations, and time spent exploring the gardens.

LEAF Wins National Grant from Nature’s Path

We’re excited to share that LEAF has been selected as one of just 16 recipients across the US and Canada of Nature’s Path Foods, Inc.’ 2026 Gardens for Good: Plant It Forward™ grants!

We’re receiving $3,000 in recognition of the work we’re doing right here in Fremont: growing and sharing organic food, strengthening our local food system, and creating hands-on opportunities for our community to learn about regenerative agriculture. This support helps us keep our gardens productive, our programs growing, and more people connected to the food they eat and the land where it’s grown.

We’re proud to represent Fremont among this year’s 16 recipients and grateful to Nature’s Path Foods for investing in our vision for a stronger, more connected, and more regenerative local food system.

Goodbye 2026 Students for LEAF!

This summer, 17 students joined Students for LEAF, our flagship summer program, and spent seven weeks at the LEAF Urban Farm learning about regenerative agriculture through hands-on experiences. From growing and harvesting food to exploring soil, compost, pollinators, and sustainable farming practices, students got to dig in and learn by doing. It was a busy seven weeks filled with new skills, meaningful work, and plenty of time spent growing together. Check out the photos here!

How to Keep Your Garden Thriving Year Round

One of the questions we hear most often from our community members is, "What can I plant right now?" 🌱

The answer has less to do with the season on the calendar and more to do with temperature. Successful gardens are built by paying attention to soil conditions, planning ahead, and choosing plants that thrive in your local climate.

As the need for fresh, healthy food continues to grow, so does our commitment to expanding what we can give back to our community. We’re pleased to announce we have reached 4,800 pounds in fresh produce donations to our partner food banks. 

A huge thank you to our local electricity provider, Ava Community Energy, for their generous support of LEAF's nursery and garden operations. Their contribution will help us grow more produce, strengthen our urban gardens, and move us closer to our stretch goal of donating 7,000 pounds of produce in 2026.
