Hi Landlover,
Wow, what an incredible couple of weeks it has been! Our fundraising season was in high gear as we raised funds for our Merit Awards, Scholarships and Grants Program.
We started off with our hugely successful 50th anniversary party. Thanks to our sell-out crowd that sported some great 50's costumes and danced the night away. A heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful supporters who so generously donated baskets for the silent auction that raised $7200! Special thanks to our Social Directors, Betsy Taubman and Sally O'Donnell and their Donation and Decoration Committees who worked so hard to make it such a fun and successful event. Following the party was our annual Flea Market. The weather gods were with us as the 1500+ shoppers descended on the Messiah Lutheran Church parking lot. Kudos to Janie Florenz and her team for a very successful Flea Market. Their year-long planning and courage to change the venue, streamline the intake process, and adjust the pricing model achieved the two goals of reducing volunteer fatigue and significantly reducing our expenses. We realized the largest gross profit ever of $64,000! We're still paying the bills, but we hope to realize a very healthy profit of approximately $40,000. Our thanks to all of our wonderful 700+ volunteers who worked so hard to make this a success, our generous donors who provided items for us to sell at the Flea Market, and our dedicated shoppers! We couldn't do it without you!
AuctionMania was a rousing success. Several treasures that were picked by our curators during Flea Market Intake made their way to AuctionMania. We had some lively bidding on a a variety of quality items. This year we also had an Experiences table that included a dinner and wine for 8 from The Landings Club, use of the Sunset Pavilion that was gifted to Landlovers by The Landings Association in honor of our 50th Anniversary, and a Ghost Pirates Jersey and tickets. And the Ghost Pirates are continuing their support by donating a portion of all ticket sales on Mar. 20 and 21 to Landlovers!! We appreciate the support of our Community!
Special thanks to our Fundraising Directors, Judi Threlfell, Hal Carr, and Eileen Yost, and their teams who built the online catalogue, curated and priced items, provided security, and arranged for a fun night for all. We're so happy to report that AuctionMania raised $14,000!
All of these funds get turned around after expenses to offer;
- Merit Awards to well-deserving Skidaway Island juniors and seniors in local high schools
- Scholarships to The Landings Association and The Landings Company staff and their dependents
- Grants to nonprofits that support our little island community.

On a personal note, I continue to be amazed by the dedication and commitment of our Landlovers volunteers. Whether you bought a ticket for the Sock Hop, organized a major fundraiser, contributed items for the Flea Market, or bid on an item for AuctionMania, you helped Landlovers achieve our goal.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to take a moment to thank all of our hard-working volunteers, our generous donors and sponsors, and our wonderful community. Without you, we couldn’t do the good work we do to enrich the community that we love
Best regards, Roni |
