Dog Owners Group for Park Access in Washington

Hello DOGPAW members,

We want to thank you for your current and ongoing support, without you we could not do what we do and the community would not have these amazing parks.  It has been a warm and dry month so be sure you are hydrating your dogs and yourselves while at the parks and elsewhere. We have some upcoming events and a need for volunteers volunteer@dogpawoffleashparks.org so please check out what’s new (and old) below.

Message from The President

HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR DOG PARK?

The sustainability of DOGPAW dog parks in Southwest Washington is funded by dog owner memberships, general donations, fundraising for specific park
projects, business sponsors, grants and of course the many volunteers who
donate their time to the park. NO tax dollars are provided. The continued
existence of our dog parks, and DOGPAW, are solely reliant on these funding
mechanisms. We need your help to maintain the parks, buy the dispensers and bags for poop pickup, pay for services such as our waste pickup, replace
benches, new fencing, and other types of projects to enhance the parks
overall. So please TAKE ACTION: VOLUNTEER, DONATE, TELL OTHERS.

Events this Month

Ike City Park upper fencing will be being replaced TODAY 10/10 through Sunday 10/16.  Please be aware the upper section of the park will be closed while construction is going on.

Blaze Restoration will be removing the old shed and installing a temporary structure at Lucky Memorial Dog Park on Thursday 10/13.

Park Operations Update

Several of our parks are in serious need of benches and we have been working hard to find a way to get them to you.  Thanks to the Salmon Creek and Ridgefield Boy Scout Troops we will soon be able to provide them.  The Troops have agreed to make the benches, stay tuned for updates and timelines.

Always things going on and things to get done at all of our parks:

Dakota (Pacific) - Dakota is busy as always but nothing new to report since last month.

Ike (Ross) - We are re-fencing the upper level of Ike THIS WEEK.  Please be aware that section of the park will be closed to the public.  If the project is completed before the end of the week we will open it up to the public as soon as possible. We are still funding this project, donations for this project specifically can be made here. For those that may not know, IKE is the only park managed by DOGPAW that is owned by the City of Vancouver in conjunction with BPA. All others are County owned.

Kane (Hockinson) - While tucked away at Hockinson Community Park, Kane is the smallest of our parks, it is also has the most shade tree coverage of our parks, and continues to get many visitors and their dogs during these hot summer days. Kane also is on the project list to get a water line.

Lucky (Minkler) - Always active and crowded, one of the main issues is the
walking paths, which has over the years has become uneven, narrowed, and eroded in many places. Underlying weed control cloth has also come to the surface that may be trip hazard as well.  We have been working with County Parks Maintenance on a solution that appears to be approved to do before next rainy season and will communicate that soon as it is ok'd. We had a very successful Luck Improvement Day on Saturday 10/8 and will have photos out later this month.  Thanks to everyone who came out to help us keep these parks great.  Blaze restoration will be tearing down the old shed and installing a temporary structure on Thursday 10/13.

Sponsor Shoutout

Blaze Restoration, has graciously offered to supply all labor in the teardown and rebuild our old shed at Lucky on Thursday 10/13.

Thank you to Totally Mutts Do-It-Yourself Dog Wash for becoming a new sponsor. They offer everything from full service grooming and pet spa services to self-wash and even cat washing.

Dog of the Month

This month our Dog of the Month is Chloe, seen here having a drink and cooling off in this extended summer.
