Dear Members and Friends,
We have just observed Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), which also marked the 83rd anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Thank you to those who joined us on April 12th to honor our survivors and remember the victims.
During the six years of World War II, we lost one third of the world’s Jewish population. Whole neighborhoods and towns were decimated. We still do not know the names of all the victims. The vast majority of my family was murdered during the war. Unfortunately, they are part of the six million.
Even as we feel that loss, we are compelled to remember the resilience. My parents, like other survivors, reclaimed and restarted their lives again. For them as it was for many, it was in a foreign country with a different language and unique customs. Despite all the difficulties and the pain, they moved forward and started a family, learned the language, and built new careers. They created lives in their new home.
I raise a glass and say l’chaim and thank you to all those who had the courage to keep going and continued to build for our future.
We were grateful to gather with you at the Phoenix Holocaust Association’s annual Community-wide Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration. This meaningful time of remembrance, reflection, and community honored those we lost and uplifted the voices and legacies of survivors.

As part of our Speakers Bureau program, Holocaust survivors Kathy Gross and Hanna Miley recently connected with students through powerful virtual presentations. Kathy Gross spoke to Scott Masters's Social Studies class at Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, while Hana Miley presented to students in the Chandler Unified School District.
Their stories made a lasting impact—students responded with heartfelt thank-you cards, reflecting the deep connection and understanding fostered through these meaningful conversations.
PHA Blog
We invite you to read our latest PHA blog, Shattered Childhoods; Strong Women, by Dr. Ettie Zilber, which shares the parallel stories of Ramona, a Chippewa child sent away from her family to the Fort Totten Indian Boarding School at age 7, and Holocaust survivor Hanna Miley, also separated from her parents at age 7 when she was sent via the Kindertransport from Cologne, Germany to London, England. Both were forced to leave behind their languages, cultures, and families to survive in an uncertain world.
The Hilton Family Holocaust Education Center (opening 2027) is collecting photos, documents, and personal items from Holocaust survivors and their families in Arizona.
Seeking: photos, letters, IDs, diaries, and objects from before, during, and after WWII.
