A couple with 4 children emigrate from Mexico. Their 8th grade daughter is excelling at school and wants to attend the Springfield trip with her classmates, but the family cannot afford the cost.  MTF pays for the class trip expenses, allowing the girl to see more of Illinois, practice her English skills and make new friends during the trip.
