Volunteering Time, Talent & Treasure: Meet Doug Zamzow
Doug first learned of Idaho2Fly through a flyer he picked up while sitting in his doctor’s office waiting for treatment for bladder cancer. After reading the brochure, he applied for and attended a retreat in 2018, benefitting so much from his retreat experience that he later decided to volunteer and give back to other men with cancer.
Serving in a variety of roles and always ready to give a hand at events and activities, Doug shares one of his favorite memories as a Fishing Friend: “As a Fishing Friend, I (along with another Fishing Friend) was helping our retreat guest to fish. He was catching a few fish, but he quickly got tired due to his cancer. So I set up my lawn chair in the shallow water in the middle of the creek. My guest sat in this chair and continued fishing with great success, catching/releasing many eager trout on dry flies. We laughed, and then laughed even more! I’m confident my guest was able to forget about his cancer during this fishing experience. Fish On! …ONE MORE CAST!”
