Starkweather Athletic Pass

For Drs. Bill and Ricky Korach, education has been more than a career—it has been a lifelong commitment to students, teachers and the Lake Oswego community.
Longtime supporters of the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation, the Koraches have been part of the Foundation’s story since its inception. As superintendent of LOSD, Bill championed the creation of the Foundation. When Measure 5 passed in 1990, creating significant funding challenges for schools across Oregon, LOSF became an increasingly important source of support for the district. Bill and Ricky understood the need to find new ways for the community to come together and provide critical resources for Lake Oswego students and teachers.
Ricky earned her Master of Science degree from Portland State University in 1986 and spent 46 years teaching English at Lake Oswego High School. She served as English department chair for 30 years and retired in 2011 after teaching more than 6,000 students. Her profound impact on generations of students is honored through a wing of Lake Oswego High School that bears her name.
Bill began his career as an English teacher before becoming principal of Lake Oswego High School. He later served for 27 years as superintendent of the Lake Oswego School District. When he retired in 2014, he was Oregon’s longest-serving school superintendent. Throughout his career, Bill received numerous honors for his leadership in education, including Portland State University’s Outstanding Alumni Award and Oregon Superintendent of the Year from the American Association of School Administrators.
Bill and Ricky exemplify a simple belief: Nothing is more important than the education, safety and well-being of children.
Their story is one of service, leadership and an enduring belief in the power of education. From Lake Oswego classrooms to future generations of students and educators, their impact continues to shape our schools and our community.
