“Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all wo are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who live and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” -BCP, page 264
Ok. I admit it. I’m not too fond of Lent. The litanies can be long and drab. Then we come to Palm Sunday and the roller-coaster week of emotions leading to Good Friday. Then there’s the “giving up” of something we may treasure and enjoy or adding something for the benefit of others to our day during these forty days.
Many during these 40 days take a time to reflect, imagine, and re-imagine their lives in some way. In this edition of Lead Like Andrew we have two offerings that may aid in that. First, our monthly webinars continue to offer insight, ideas and hope for the church. This month is no exception. Fr. Matt Marino, rector of Trinity Parish in St. Augustine, Florida, is our guest this month (tonight at 8 p.m./Eastern). He has been a friend and advocate of our ministry for years; first appearing to speak at our 2018 National Convention (held within General Convention) in Austin. We hope you will attend it tonight or share it from our website at a meeting at your church.
Another ongoing offering is a series of Sacred Ground discussions. My thanks to our brothers facilitating this conversation. This seems an appropriate offering during Lent to listen, read, mark and inwardly digest our past so that we may walk more closely with our siblings in Christ from all walks of life. Links to both of these offerings are below. Having been a part of this holy conversation myself, it helped me to better understand evangelism opportunities we have through forgiveness, grace and healing. These past weeks I have had some wonderful conversations with Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno of Kenya while she’s been on campus at Virginia Theological Seminary. Evangelism and the related conversations are a key to her ministry ... and ours.
Speaking of forgiveness, redemption, grace and healing, I had the opportunity to offer a homily on these topics recently when the lectionary brought us to Genesis 45; the story of Joseph reuniting with his brothers. If you would like to walk with me through the remarkable example Joseph gave us back then and some remarkable modern-day examples as well, you are invited to read the homily through this link: https://brothersandrew.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/7th-Sunday-after-Epiphany-Homily.pdf
I close bidding we are all bathed with waves of grace-filled moments during Lent.
FIRST WEDNESDAY WEBINARS
Our monthly webinars are always on the first Wednesday of each month at 8 pm/Eastern.
The mentoring network was a particular solution to a church’s particular problem (no young adults) utilizing their particular charism (lots of newly retired top executives). The solution was to use the executives to attract young adults.
Sacred Ground offerings with Brothers
The Race and Reconciliation Committee of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew plans to start Sacred Ground Dialogue Circles on March 10 at 7 p.m. Eastern for 1.5 hours each session. The sessions will be held every two weeks until the eleven Sacred Ground Units are completed.
The sessions will be scheduled on the 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7 PM Eastern.
Filing your annual chapter report is the perfect way to give the Brotherhood Board feedback about and for your chapter. Without your participation, the Board cannot effectively assess and plan ministries, resources and support for you. Please check with your chapter officers to make sure your report for 2024 was filed or email admin@brothersandrew.net with your chapter number to check. If it hasn't been filed, please file this 2024 report eitherONLINEorPRINT, complete and mail as soon as possible. Your response helps make the Brotherhood a better organization of prayer, study and service for all!
JOIN US IN PRAYER EACH WEEK
Mid-Week, Mid-Day, "12:00 Central Time"
What better way to level set during the middle of the week? We will hold a weekly Wednesday noon (CDT) prayer time over ZOOM that is open to all brothers and guests. Let's pray for the Brotherhood, for our Brothers, and even share some stories of how Prayer has impacted you or someone you know!
We can all spare 20 minutes in prayer. It's like stopping at the faith service station to fill your prayer tank!
Please join us every week when you can to recharge your prayer batteries!
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew, The Brooklyn and Queens Assemblies, and The Diocese of Chicago wish to remind you to join the weekly Bible Study on Thursdays, 8 p.m. EDT/7 p.m. CDT/6 p.m. MDT/ 5 p.m. PDT. New members to receive "welcome call" from
their Province President and/or Diocesan Leaders
New members are starting to receive email notification from the Service Center when their complete and funded applications are processed. Packets are also sent via USPS. Often, our Executive Director Tom Welch, makes a welcome call. Our senior leadership wants to take it a step closer to the ground. Each member of the Brotherhood has a Province President, and many have a Diocesan Coordinator contact. "What province am I in?" A map is below.
Earlier this month each province president received a list of the new members in his province. You should have already received a welcome call from him by now or will in the near future. It's all about building connections so we may build community and leadership. One or more of our leaders will be calling y new members by phone, so you may see an odd phone number show on your phone. Take a chance and see if it is a new Brotherhood friend on the other end. They would like to get to know you. Each month the Service Center will forward those names.
Likewise, every month for those new members who have indicated an interest in one or more of our seven ministries, that Ministry VP will also receive your name and plug new members into that ministry silo.
If new members aren't able to answer the call, our leaders will leave a message for a call back opportunity from our new members. What makes a new member join? What does their parish look like? What would they share to others about the Brotherhood? These are the type of questions we want to learn so we may grow in the Lord together.
A special welcome to these new members joining since February 20:
