MUCC’s Statement on Federal Wolf Delisting Announcement

Michigan United Conservation Clubs strongly supports the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s final rule that delists the gray wolf in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Western Great Lakes Region gray wolf population is beyond recovered. Science dictates the management decisions of our natural resources in Michigan, and the wolf population in our state needs management.
Delisting the gray wolves from the endangered species list in Michigan would allow the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Natural Resources Commission to make
management decisions based on sound science in the best interest of our state’s resources.
The final rule will go into effect on January 4, 2021. To review the 442 pages of information leading to this decision, please follow the link provided: https://fws.gov/…/gray-wolf-final-delisting…

We have a cabin near Rapid River and have a large number of wolves. Glad to hear the DNR now has a opportunity to manage them.

There is no “sound science” with this. States have repeatedly proven that they are incapable of handling predatory animal populations without letting bloodlust blind them to reality. They cannot be trusted. May this be tied up in litigation until Doomsday.
Predator populations, civil rights and state birds – the three issues that can’t be trusted to be left to the states.
