Posting Summary | The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources within Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension at Rutgers University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of County Agent III (equivalent to Assistant Professor). This position is located at the Somerset County office of Rutgers Cooperative Extension in Bridgewater, NJ. This faculty position would have a specific focus on commercial agriculture viability, inclusive of production, marketing, and business management, with a strong emphasis on on-farm food safety and FSMA training and compliance. |

Minimum Education and Experience | A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in agriculture crop production, horticulture, plant science, soil science, or other closely related fields is required. In addition, applicants must have three years related experience post bachelor’s degree. Experience or course work in commercial agriculture viability, inclusive of production, marketing, and business management, with a strong emphasis on on-farm food safety and FSMA training and compliance, working with diverse audiences, and/or collaboration/coalition building are highly sought after. Familiarity with on farm food safety and related safety protocols preferred. |

Certifications/Licenses | A valid New Jersey driver’s license, ability to successfully complete Rutgers and / or Somerset County Defensive Driving Courses and other HR trainings as required. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | This position would be responsible for assisting commercial agricultural clientele in implementing and sustaining BMPs, GAP management techniques, and applicable FSMA requirements to improve their viability in production and marketing. The successful candidate is also expected to work with agricultural producers and commercial clientele regarding regulatory programs such as NJ DEP pesticide control and water allocations. This position also supervises county program and administrative staff delivering ANR volunteer training programs within Somerset County and in the region. Demonstrated positive interpersonal communication skills (oral and written). Ability to address changing technology to serve clientele. Computer skills required. Evidence of recent educational materials and/or methods targeting diverse populations. Experience in fostering positive interpersonal relations and evidence of effective communication skills. Possess initiative, creativity, ability to take direction while also working independently to meet goals and deadlines, and a willingness to learn and improve proficiency in designated subject matter areas. Possess organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks within both office and field settings. Ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate programs for the commercial agricultural industry. |
Equipment Utilized | Computer, printer, and related software including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite; Email for communications and research, locally and nationally; Equipment related to programming and teaching (laptop, LCD projector, etc.); digital cameras, etc. Working knowledge of current and changing electronic technology. |
Physical Demands and Work Environment | Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Successfully and efficiently work in both office and research farm / landscape settings and field visits. |
