   ROARING FORK CONSERVANCY
Snowpack & River Report

April Snowpack Reports are supported
by K&W Concrete, Inc.

Summary:

The last few days of sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures have brought the mixed feelings of early spring as the valley floor greens, snow melts and rivers begin to run. Stream flows increased substantially over the last week - flows on the Roaring Fork River have doubled and flows on the Crystal River have tripled!  This early season runoff both feeds streams and fills reservoirs. Local reservoirs capture and store runoff which will later be used for municipal water supply, agricultural irrigation or environmental flows downstream. Reservoirs are at their lowest right before runoff begins, with many reservoirs in Colorado reaching record lows this year. Ruedi Reservoir is currently 55% full compared to 58% full this time last year.  Snowpack is currently 99% of normal, dropping below historic average (100%) for the first time this season With rain and snow in the weekend forecast, perhaps we will see a late season bump in much needed moisture!
