YMCA Update: The Campaign for the YMCA Community/Center has good news to share. At the end of the Commissioners’ budget session on Tuesday, February 15th, Commissioner Colvin suggested that they return to the issue of the YMCA and the Task Force’s proposed location near the Great Mills Pool. After robust discussion at the November 16th meeting, the Commissioners have now voted to move forward with a YMCA at Great Mills that would include a heated pool. The next discussion will be at their regular meeting on March 1st, when the CEO of YMCA of the Chesapeake, Robbie Gill, will return. Members of the Steering Committee of the Campaign want to thank members of TPP and the broader community who have communicated their support for a YMCA, to our Commissioners. A YMCA will be a community resource - for our youth and seniors, for recruiting and retaining young professionals and families, for supporting members of the military and their families, and for the community at large. Thank you to our Commissioners as they move forward with the YMCA project.  More on this soon!
